ST. RENE GOUPIL
St. Rene Goupil is a parish located in Sterling Heights, Central Macomb Vicariate, and until July 2004 was led by a charismatic and progressive pastor, Fr. Fred Schweihofer.  One of he hallmarks of Fr. Schweihofer's pastorate was the empowerment of the people and the staff to carrying out the mission of the parish.  Fr. Schweihofer abruptly resigned as pastor in July 1984.  The parish staff asked for and received Fr.Larry Jackson as temporary administrator until a new pastor could be installed.

February 1, 2005, Fr. Steve Koehler, pastor of St. Vincent Ferrer, Madison Heights, administrator of St. James, Ferndale, and vicar of Southeast Oakland (Ferndale, Madison Heights, Oak Park and Royal Oak) was installed as the new pastor of St. Rene Goupil - while still retaining his other positions.

In a short time, Fr. Koehler dismissed the staff members, or induced them to resign, and cut back or eliminated many of the programs for which St. Rene Goupil was known.  Approximately 50% of the parishioners left the parish and revenue significantly decreased.  Many parishioners fought back.  Below are documents related to their search for restoration of their parish and a website they created to contain their documents
